Your know you're home when...
You know the feeling: You’ve been away on holiday or a another trip, you head home, the car (or for us, car and trailer) is loaded up, you reach your driveway, pull in, open up the house and start unloading.
But you know you’re really home when … what is it for you?
For me it’s when the espresso machine (all 35Kg of it) is back in place in the kitchen, the water supply hooked up, the Mazzer grinder is in place, and the whole kit is warming up, ready for the first ‘spresso back home.
That was today for me. Returning ‘home’ after eight weeks leave…

What we do in private...
Should what we do in ‘private’ have any impact on how people perceive and treat us?
Should any impact that our ‘private’ activity has only become public if it’s illegal?
Are we supporting and encouraging a dualism in our lives (‘private’ – do what you like, ‘public’ life – appear to be upright, trustworthy and moral).
I think as a culture we have an absurdly hypocritical attitude to these questions.

Taking my leave...
No, don’t worry, I’m not departing in the normal sense of the word.
But I am taking some long service leave – eight love-er-ly weeks of it!

Automotive short-sightedness
I’m probably not much different to most Australian males. I admit to really enjoying my cars. I enjoy driving, I enjoy driving enthusiastically when safe and legal.
So it’s hurts a little to feel the need to downsize my car a tad and settle for something with less grunt than I’m used to. The driving factors (pun intentional) are cost saving and a slight nod to environmental issues. But one of the things that would make that change a whole lot easier to swallow is being made harder by government policy…

Me on online communities
At the risk of blowing my own trumpet, it’s funny where engaging with online communities (in this case, Textpattern) takes one
