Christians and caring. Wow… My prayer for this week is to learn how to love as Christ wants us to. Honestly it seems so difficult to have genuine love and care for others in church. It seems as if the only ones I love are my parents and my sisters and I have light affections for others. Other times I feel as if I love everybody but don’t know how to show it.
Treating one another like family seems more like “nice strangers” as you mentioned. Brother or Sister is a phrase we attach to our names but I don’t feel except for a few people the relationship of actual brothers or sisters.
My mother said before that mistreating widows and the fatherless are so serious to God like a pet peeve.

There’s a saying here Eden: “You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your family!”
I guess that applies as much to our church family as our biological family. :-)
Of course, we are brothers and sisters because of our common relationship in Christ, but you are quite right in saying that it’s a real struggle. It’s a good example of deciding to act in a loving way towards people regardless of how we feel about them.
I agree with your mother’s comments, but would just add that we shouldn’t limit ourselves to just widows and orphans – they are representative of the defenceless and helpless in our society.
